BIP-177 proposal by John Carvalho has recently made waves across the Bitcoin community. To summarise, BIP-177 is not a protocol-level change, but it suggests to redefine Bitcoin's base unit in two major ways:
- Represent Bitcoin amounts using ONLY integers. This means no more decimals, and less calculator puzzles.
- Replace informal "satoshi" definition with "bitcoins". Meaning that "bitcoin" becomes the smallest possible discreet unit rather than being equal to 100 million satoshis.
The thing is that people can and will define Bitcoin in whatever way they want. Some prefer the purely classical view (0.00021), while others agree that moving to integers (21 000) reduces the cognitive load, especially for small transactions, but they don't see that much value in discarding "satoshis" as a name.
You do you
We know Bitcoiners have strong preferences when it comes to how they “see” Bitcoin. Some think in sats, others in decimals. Some are curious about new standards, others stick with the familiar.
That's why we now put this choice in your hands: Modern, Classic or Satoshi format.

- Navigate to your "Account" section
- Click on "BTC Denomination"
- Choose your preferred format
Whether you stack sats or count full coins - Bitcoin is yours to live on. We’re just here to make this lifestyle seamless.
