It's been just over a year since we launched wave.space with a mission to empower Bitcoin as money in today's world. We've had thousands of Bitcoiners sign up, and some of them have become active community members, giving us invaluable product feedback.

Whether it was coming from Bitcoin newbies buying Bitcoin with their personal vIBAN, or seasoned Bitcoin veterans using NWC to live on Bitcoin from their Lightning node, we've been systematically gathering your ideas throughout the last year and quietly working on a complete upgrade of the app.

Today, we're incredibly proud to mark the next chapter of wave.space - a brand new webapp that not only looks and feels much more familiar to your everyday banking app, but also packs a ton of new powerful features!

What's new?

From small tweaks to brand new features, wave.space has been reimagined across the board. Here are the most notable upgrades:

A brand new look

We redesigned the entire webapp with:

• A cleaner interface and easier navigation
• One-click access to all core tools
• A brand-new homepage that brings everything together
• Smarter caching for faster load times

You can add https://app.wave.space as a PWA app on your mobile home screen. It really feels like a neobank app now - but for Bitcoin!

Passwordless login

No more passwords. We've simplified the login and sign up process drastically. All you need to sign up/login is your email and a 6-digit OTP code. On top of that, we've also reworked session management, so you should experience less random logouts and authentication glitches.

Overall, we wanted to make onboarding experience as frictionless as possible, so that wave.space would be easy to use not only for advanced Bitcoiners, but also complete newbies. This also means that you can "orange pill" your friends much easier by inviting them to wave.space! (P.S. did you know that we have a referral program that shares 21% of revenue?)

In the future we are planning to add more 1-click social login options (think of Google, Nostr, Apple, and so on).

LINK - fully automated BTC purchases into self-custody

This is a big one! You can now give your wallet a dedicated IBAN! “Link” is a permanent bridge to a specific wallet, enabling you to automate buying BTC directly into self-custody.

Up until now, all Bitcoin withdrawals had to be manually confirmed with an OTP code, requiring you to come back to the app each time you purchase BTC into self-custody. Some of our early adopters noted that they are using wave.space to "euro-cost average" into Bitcoin, essentially making recurring Bitcoin purchases into the same wallet, and that they would love to automate it.

This is our answer to that - "Link" allows you to choose one of your whitelisted wallets, do one single pre-approval OTP for all future purchases, and get a new IBAN linked to that specific wallet. From that point on, any EUR sent to that new IBAN will appear as BTC in your chosen wallet automatically.

Lightning Addresses

Sending and receiving Bitcoin over Lightning just got much easier. Once again, we took in the feedback that dealing with Lightning invoices is not the most pleasant UX, and many Bitcoin (and non-Bitcoin) apps are already using the new Lightning address standard that allows you to send BTC to recognizable and reusable addresses.

From now on, you can claim your very own address on wave.space completely for free and start receiving BTC payments instantly. Lightning withdrawals are also free of charge, contrary to many other apps, so we're embracing Lightning as much as possible, and we'd love for you to try using wave.space as your primary Bitcoin payments app.

Pro tip: if you add ".eur" at the end of your claimed handle, all BTC sent to this variation of your address will be auto-converted to EUR!

Smarter transaction list

We’ve cleaned up the transaction list significantly:

• Transactions are now grouped by days, helping you find exactly what you did that one day
• Search for specific merchants you paid at, and other transactions
• Filter for transaction types to see exactly what you want to see
• Application fees now live within the associated transactions
• EUR deposits and withdrawals are folded into their triggered swaps
• Clearer overview of actual Bitcoin movement

This lets you focus on what matters: Bitcoin.

More Nostr Wallet Connect!

We believe NWC is here to stay and the ecosystem is evolving rapidly as more and more Lightning wallets add NWC capabilities. We have integrated this technology even more deeply within the app.

Besides the auto-topups powering your self-custodial wavecard spending, we also added 1-click BTC topups, as well as the ability to sell BTC directly from your NWC connected wallet.
